Notes: I recently bought two carte de visite photos identified on the back as Abraham and Polly Shank. This may be Samuel and Polly Shank enumerated in the 1900 Census living in Ashby, Rockingham Cty, VA. Polly b. 1822, age 78, gave birth to 6 children-3 living. Abraham, b. March 1819, age 87.
Abraham's photo was taken by Clary's Celebrated Portrait & Stereoscopic Palace for Rockingham County. Third Story, Ott & Shue's Drug Store, Harrisonburg, VA. Writing says "A. Shank - Nov 12, 1878".
Polly's photo was taken by Morrison Photo in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Writing says "Polly Shank Nov 12, 1878"

Notes: I recently bought a group of old photos identified as Luella, Essie, Addie, and Ella Dunlevy. Three of the photos were taken by Nash of Peoria, IL. The other photo was taken by C. R. Gibson, corner of Main & Adams Sts, Peoria, IL.
I believe these girls may be the children of Andrew Lawrence Dunlevy (b.Sept 1843 PA - d. Feb 11, 1918 in Trivoli, Peoria Cty, IL)and his wife Mary Connell Dunlevy (b. Apr 1848 Ireland - d. unknown)who were enumerated with their daughters in 1900 Census for Trivoli, Peoria Cty, IL. Andrew is listed as a drayman. His girls are the following: Sarah I. b. Apr 1871, Essie b. June 1880, Adella b. Dec 1882 - d. 1916 Abingdon, Knox Cty, IL, Katie b. Oct 1888, and Luella b. May 1891.

Notes: I bought an adorable baby photo identified as Agatha McElwee. I believe this Agatha McElwee, born b. Jan 1900, the daughter of Charles and Eliza Bryson McElwee, the sister of Margaret McElwee Spears, Bryson McElwee, and William McElwee. I found the family enumerated in the 1900 Census in Buffalo, Pike Cty, MO living at 1306 Georgia St. Chas, age 37, is a clerk at a grocery store, Eliza, age 33, is a housekeeper, and children are Agatha, age 10, Margaret, age 7, Bryson, age 2.
Many of the members of this family worked for Stark Brothers Nursery.
I find Agatha in the 1920 Census listed as a power machine operator living in Portland, Multnomah Cty, Oregon. She is living with Lester and Lucille Dressler. Lester is a cashier for the telephone company. They have a newborn daughter Maralyn Dressler. I'm not sure why Agatha would be so far from hom.
Agatha is again back with her family in the 1930 Census living in Buffalo, Pike Cty, MO.
I have the obit for her sister Margaret who died in 1999 at age 96 at the Maple Grove Nursing Home in Louisiana, MO.

Notes: I bought a baby photo that is identified as Alfred Pickles. The cabinet card photo appears to be taken around the early 1900's. I believe this may be Alfred W. Pickles, born 23 Aug 1903, the son of Alfred W. Pickles b. 1879 MO and Katie A. b. 1878 LA. I found this little family in the 1910 Census living on Tennessee Avenue in St. Louis, MO. Alfred's parents live downstairs in the same house.
I found Alfred Jr. and his wife Idell living in Denver, Denver County, CO in the 1930 Census. Alfred is a mail carrier. I also found his death listed in the SSDI as August 1981 in Arvada, Jefferson County, Colorado.

Notes: I bought a photo identified as Alice Brant who appears to be about four year of age. I believe the photo dates about 1882. It was taken by Stacy of Rahway, NJ. It was one of the photos in a large cabinet card photo album.
Alice's father died, and Margaretta and the children are living with her Mother, Julia Bissett, a widow, in South River, Middlesex County, NJ, in the 1900 Census. Alice's siblings are Blanche b. 1884, Randolph A. b. 1888, Julia E. b. 1890, and Killian C. b. 1892.
This little girl with beautiful eyes is entrancing. She is wearing dark stockings, high button boots, has a pin at the neck, and is wearing a long necklace or locket. Her hair is very short and she has bangs. Her dress is white with a large lace collar.

Notes: I have wonderfully preserved cabinet card photo identified as August HUFNAGEL. I believe he may be August Christ HUFNAGEL, b. 20 Aug 1876 in Germany. His WWI Draft application lists his wife as Louisa. August is 42 years old and is a machinist for J. K. Stewart Manufacturing Co. in Chicago, IL. In 1910, August , proprietor of a saloon, is listed with wife Louisa and son Walter. In the 1920 Census he is a machinist. In 1930 he is listed as divorced and the manager of a florist. I find his son Walter listed as head of the family living with his Mother Louisa and his brother Willard in Chicago.
I am not related, but I would like to connect this photo with a family member or family researcher.
In the photo, August has a receding hairline. His hair is parted in the middle and he has a mustache that curls up on the ends. He is wearing a dark suit with a white shirt and ascot tie.
August Hufnagel's death certificate says that he is the son of Adam Hufnagel of Germany and Mary Kolb of Germany. He was born 30 Jan 1876 in St. Louis, MO and died 25 May 1945. He was in the furniture and upholstering business. His home was 3886 Federer Place, and his wife is listed as Emma P. Hufnagel. August was prepared for burial by Beiderwieden of St. Louis, and he was laid to rest at Sunset Burial Park.

Notes: I bought this photo identified as Aunt Bertha (Mrs. Ed Weber) and Aunt Carrie (Mrs. Bert Wood). I believe this may be Bert Wood and Carrie Mabbott who in the 1910 Census lived in Harmony, Rock Cty, WI. Bert is listed as a farmer age 34, Carrie is age 42, and their baby Lisle is age 3.
The photography studio appears to be in Walworth County, Wisconsin.
I also found an Edward E. Weber in the 1910 Census in Janesville, Rock Cty, WI with his wife Berth(a), age 36, with their children Andrew F., age 19, Lulu, age 15, and Edna A., age 9/12.
I thought that Carrie and Bertha might be sisters, but that is just a guess. |

Notes: I recently bought two photos from the 1950's from The Trogler's. One says The Caledonia Trogler's. On the back it says "Chambersburg PA". In 1930, Jack, age 39, is a laborer at a steel mill, Antonette is 29, Chas J. is 11, Walter is 10, and Isabelle M., is 6. The family is living at 1901 Quincy Street in Granite City, IL. |

Notes: I believe this may be Charles P. Hufnagel, the son of Henry Hufnagel and Anna Hinkel, who was born 18 Aug 1873 in Missouri and died 2 June 1951 in St. Louis, MO. His home address at the time was 6713 Virginia in St. Louis, MO. Henry was a machinist. The informant for the death certificate was Ruth Hoffmann. Charles was a widower, and his deceased wife was Wilhelmina.
The 1910 Census finds Charles, age 36, a machinist at a stove factory, with his wife Minnie, age 27, marriage 2, along with Thomas Thompson, age 5, son.

Notes: I bought a wonderful cabinet card photo identified as Charles Clark taken by Merritt of Galesburg, IL. I found the exact picture in the History of Knox County, IL! This is Charles S. Clark, who was born in Roxbury, Delaware County, New York on 4 June 1835. His paternal grandfather was Hazard Clark.
On 21 March 1861 Charles S. Clark married Almina C. Hedstrom born in Farmington, IL 12 Oct 1840. They had five children together before Almina died in 1887 of typhoid fever.

It says that Charles W. Kessler was born 6 Oct 1840. The photo was taken in 1866 and is a carte de visite size photo. I found a Chas W. Kessler, b. 1846, age 24, listed as a farmhand with his wife Anna B., living in Camp Point, Adams County, IL in the 1870 Census. I found a tree with this Charles W. that says he died 17 Sept 1924 in Camp Point, IL. |
