1860-1935 The Diamond Jubilee of Zion Lutheran Church - Published in 1935
Author Committee
Publisher Unknown
City St. Louis
County Missouri
State Missouri
Price $20.00 (plus $3.50 postage and handling)
Notes:
I recently bought this church history book because I believe it will be a wonderful addition to a Jacob Dornseif family member or family researcher. The booklet has many photos of the interior and exterior of the church. There are also photos of Sunday School classes and church committees.

"A number of the founders of Zion had been members of Trinity Church and then later when Immanuel Church was organized, affiliated with it. The first Trinity Church was on Lonbard Street, between Third and Fourth Streets. The trip to church was a long one, there being no street cars or buses. Immanuel Church was only one-half the distance, but still a far way for the children. On November 30, 1858, eithteen members of Immanuel organized the Northern Evangelical Lutheran School District. These men are, therefore, the real founders of Zion Church. We present their names in alphabetical order: John Frederick Bockermann, Henry Rudolph Bramsch, Henry Brueggemann, Henry Dammeier, Jacob Dornseif, William Ellersiek, Dietrich Fangmann, Henry Holzkamp, Henry Koelter, Frederick Christian Lange, Henry Penningroth, Frederick Sachleben, Frrederick Schneller, Hermann Spielmann, Albert Steinmeier, William Wellmann, Henry Wemhoener."

There are also photos of the first pastors including the following: Rev. J. F. Buenger, Rev. W. C. Boese, Rev. George Link, Rev. Henry Sieck, Rev. Charles F. Obermeyer, Rev. Louis Sieck.

There are photos of the schools including the first school at Fourteenth and Warren Streets in St. Louis, MO, and the school located at 20th and Benton Street.

There are also lists of the teachers who taught at Zion Lutheran and some photos of them. There are also photos of the classes at the school.

This is such a wonderful historical piece of memorabilia.

Please contact me if you have an interest in it.

1868-1968 History of St. Andrew's Parish - Published in 1968
Author Mary Palmer and Mary Slechticky
Publisher Not known
City Murphysboro
County Jackson Illinois
State Illinois
Price $22.00 (plus $5.00 postage and handling)
Notes:
I recently bought this centennial history book about St. Andrew's Parish because I believe it will be treasured by a family researcher. The book seeks to record the story of the dedicated priests who founded the parish and the story of their dedicated successors who have built and who have administered to its spiritual needs.

The book also acknowledges the vital role that the Sisters Adorers of the Most Precious Blood and the Franciscan Sisters have played, as well as, the part the laity have enacted in parish life.

Its earliest chapter recounts the events in the history of the region from the time the earliest settlers arrived in the early 1800's, organized Jackson County, chose its name, and then moved its county seat to Murphysboro. Flatboat transportation on the Big Muddy and the development of the area mines in the pre-Civil War days are described.

An eye witness account of the great tornado of 1925, which completely destroyed much of the city, is included.

There is an appendix lists St. Andrew's veterans who have served in five wars; its first pew holders; the men who have served as trustees during the past 100 years, and a list of the 1968 parishioners.

There 320 pages and 185 pictures - many with each person identified.

Notes:
There is so little written about women ancestors. I recently bought a small booklet entitled "Minutes of 48th Annual Session of the Methodist Protestant Church" held at Mt. Pisgah Church in Greene County, MO, September 2-4, 1914. A lady named Ola Amos of Rogersville, MO was a representative on the Literature committee. Although the booklet has signs of age, wear, and a few pencil marks, it makes for interesting reading.

I found a death certificate for Mary Leola Amos, who died of general sepsis from a cut on her thumb, on June 4, 1935. She was 65 years old. The death certificate gives her date of birth as 7 Sept 1870 in Webster County, MO. The informant was Mary Amos of Rogersville, MO. The undertaker was Kelley and Ferrell of Rogersville, MO. She was buried in Panther(?) Valley Cemetery.

I am not related, but I would like to connect this booklet with a family member or family researcher. Please contact me if you have an interest in this booklet.
